Known for its fellowship-trained surgeons who are leaders in their field, Long Beach Lakewood Orthopedic Institute welcomes Dr. Brandon A. Ortega, M.D., a fellowship-trained Orthopedic Spine Surgeon and Dr. Prem N Rakumar, a dual fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon.

Dr. Ortega earned his medical degree from the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California. He completed his orthopedic surgical residency at USC, where he excelled as Chief Resident. Specializing in spine surgery, he furthered his expertise through the UC Davis Spine Surgery Fellowship, focusing on traditional, minimally invasive, and image-guided techniques for complex spinal deformities.
His expertise includes motion-preserving surgery, minimally invasive surgery, robotic surgery, and complex revision/deformity surgery. Dr. Ortega has contributed significantly to the field, with numerous peer-reviewed articles and presentations at national and international conferences.
Dr. Prem N Ramkumar, M.D. MBA, a dual fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon, and he joins the institute with specialized expertise in hip and knee conditions, from Sports Medicine/Arthroscopy to Joint Replacement/Adult Reconstruction.
Dr. Ramkumar received his medical education and surgical training at renowned institutions such as Cleveland Clinic, Harvard/Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and the #1 ranked orthopedic hospital in the country, Hospital for Special Surgery. His commitment to leveraging emerging technologies is demonstrated by his MBA from Cornell University’s campus at Cornell Tech in New York City.
